Jakarta has fully embraced the new normal that was imposed on us by this pandemic because in just a few months, enthusiasts of cycling were able to adjust quickly regardless of the age group. As a matter of fact, cyclists in Jakarta have now increased and often seen at the side streets, which actually proves that people in Jakarta have always been cycling fans even before this pandemic happened because of the many health benefits of this activity. But because this is an unprecedented time be cycling, people need to follow certain rules and regulations to assure their safety.
Preparation for cycling
Before going out to do cycling, there are certain things that must be done first. For instance, take note of the government's advice on the different areas that have been declared as safe of Covid-19. Next, it is also very important to keep the bike clean especially the specific parts that are in contact with the body parts, especially the hands; in relation to this, it is also very important to keep the entire body clean and washed before going out and before having any contact with the bike. It is also important to choose a mask that is comfortable to wear, not too tight and breathable, so it will not be a struggle to go cycling with it. Lastly, it's always important to prepare things to bring such as water bottles and one's own utensils if ever they are needed.
Since social distancing is still highly recommended, it is highly important to go cycling on your own as much as possible to avoid any contact with someone else. If it cannot be avoided to cycle with other people, make sure that the maximum number in a group is 5 people. While cycling it is also very important to be mindful of places that were tagged as red zone in terms of the Covid-19 situation. In addition to this, being mindful of the distance between peers is also a very helpful tip and will keep everyone safe; a distance of 2 meters should be observed for cyclists on someone's left and right, while 4 meters for people at the front and back. Lastly, it is never non-negotiable to always obey traffic rules when cycling even with a big group so that no unnecessary delays will be experienced.
The most crucial steps that need to be followed are the ones that should be done right after cycling because of being exposed to different elements outside. Because of this, it is necessary to always wash hands with soap after riding the bike, as well as the face; not to mention, it is also necessary to get enough rest to ensure that energy will be regained as soon as possible to prevent attracting any form of illness.
Some of these reminders seem very straight to the point and self explanatory, but it still doesn't hurt to be reminded every once in a while because sometimes the most obvious precautions are the ones that people forget the most.
